Description: To use sound addition and subtraction to make new words. Good for 1 to 1 with special educational needs such as dyslexic children.
Goals: Students will:
1. become more interested in reading in order
2. feel encouraged to read independently.
2. develop phonological awareness.
Objectives: Students will:
1. engage in discussion about the book he is reading.
2. use speaking and listening exercises designed to assist in the recognition of syllables and sound units in words.
Materials:
Work with the child on the book they are reading. Discuss the story and involve them through any personal experiences of a similar nature. Encourage them to think about the characters in the book and predict what might happen in the story. Ask the child to put the cardboard letters in alphabetical order. Do sound unit addition and subtraction exercises (E.g. Make a word which the child reads, and then add or subtract a letter asking the child to read the new word.)
