Proposal for Final Project

Here is your opportunity to pursue some aspect of distance education that is of special interest to you. You may have wanted to explore some part of the distance learning process during the course, but did not have time to do it. You may have wanted to go further on one topic, but found that you had to move along with your colleagues to keep pace. You may be employed in a setting where your recommendations for a distance learning project would be welcomed.

The purpose of this project is to:
(1) carry out an in-depth study or to create a product related to one aspect of the course content; and
(2) enhance analytical skills in comparing, contrasting and critically reflecting on various sources of information pertaining to distance learning.

Examples:

  • Revise one section of this course to improve its content and approach.
  • Create an interactive exercise that could be used in this course.
  • Explore the various theories of distance education and adult education with a view toward blending both.
  • Summarize the research on one aspect of distance learning (e.g., dropouts, computer-mediated communication, testing).
  • Create a topic in which you have special interest and negotiate a goal and objectives with the instructor.

Submit the prospectus on or before March 21. The prospectus is usually about one page in length and outlines the nature of your final project and the approach you will take in completing it. You will receive feedback and suggestions before the end of the next week. The prospectus is not graded but its approval is required.
