Objectives:

At the end of this session you should be able to:

  1. Distinguish among mission, goals, objectives and purpose of a program;
  2. Describe the planning process that leads to a financial plan;
  3. Name the number and type of staff needed to operate a program;
  4. List the basic elements of the budgeting process;
  5. Recommend an administrative organization for distance education; and
  6. Identify decision points, the information needed at each point, and the mechanisms for control.

Focus Ouestions:

  1. What are the planning elements for distance education?
  2. What personnel are needed? at what level? and with what training?
  3. Exactly what is meant by "logistics" in a distance education program?
  4. What is the purpose of an information system for distance education and how does it operate? Who uses it and how?
  5. What are the special items in a distance education budget that would likely not be found in a ""traditional"" budget?
  6. How does ""organization"" facilitate or hinder progress in a distance education program?
