  1. Describe, in general terms, the design and development process for creating distance learning materials and strategies;
  2. Describe procedures that can be used to stimulate interactive techniques for the distance learner;
  3. Name the functions of the course development team; and
  4. Serve in the role of one member of a course development team.

Focus Questions:

  1. In distance education, the course materials are everything. They are often the only contact between the learner and the instructor. They must stand by themselves. Their components must be integrated. Instructions must be crystal clear. There is no room for ambiguity. How is such a course created?
  2. How does a course plan for distance education differ from that of a traditional course?
  3. How do course materials account for the independent nature of the learner?
  4. What facilitates (or hinders) learning from these materials and procedures? How can several media be integrated into one learning package?

Assignment #3 (WWW evaluations) due at this session.

Begin to consider your approach to Assignment #4 due February 28.
